WE’RE CREATING A Rx FOR HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
Winston-Salem and Forsyth County have exceptional health care resources. However, too many people cannot access the right services. The United Way believes being “healthy” is about much more than visiting a doctor. It is about the environments in which we live, the lifestyles we lead and other societal factors.
Healthy kids are more likely to do well in school. Healthy adults are more productive on the job, providing a better quality of life for their families. Unfortunately, 63.2% of Forsyth County residents are obese or overweight.
We work closely with local medical centers and health organizations to create a healthier community. Our specific goals include decreasing youth tobacco use and the mortality rate associated with heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
RIGHT NOW IN FORSYTH COUNTY
United Way brings local health groups together to improve our community’s health and ensure a high quality of life. We also look to address the root causes or social determinants that can be the fundamental causes of poor health.
